If you are looking at ways of improving your position on search engines, blogs can a great way of getting your content higher up Google. They can be dead cheap to set up (from £95) and fun to do but there are 6 golden rules of blogging:
1) Use the right tools
We will often recommend Wordpress for your blog. Fairly easy to use and great for search engines. It's free and can be customised to look like your website ensuring consitency.
2) KISS
Keep it Short and Simple. Don't write War & Peace, 2 or 3 paragraphs is great and will stop you from waffling. If you have more content, make a note and come back to it when you can't think what to write.
3) Link it
You can get plug-ins to connect your blog to your twitter and linkedin account. This means that the blog entry automagically updates your status on these social networks. Great for followers and traffic!
4) Do it often
Nothing worse than a blog drought to suck out the life from your site. There has got to be something you can write about? Here's 101 of them!
5) Don't get too personal
Rants and raves are usually not attractive to your customers. Try to restrict your blog to helpful, positive, useful stuff with nice titles for the search engine to read. More people are likely to read it, and suggest your blog to other people too.
6) Let people comment on your blogs
But keep an eye on what they say. You can moderate blog comments, filter out the spammers and the rubbish to keep the comments on message.
We host some great (award winning) blogs and we would be delighted to host your blog, with prices starting at £55+vat for a year. Call 01952 457392 for more details.
